Has anyone else been testing Internet Explorer 8? I have heard that it will be released as a critical automatic update and was wondering about others experiences with testing and what your campuses are planning.
Yes, I've been using both versions of IE 8 -- 32-bit and 64-bit. It has the same problems as IE 7:
1. A special Java 64-bit version must be used with the 64-bit browser
2. The 64-bit browsers don't fully support QuickTime
3. Adobe has not distributed a 64-bit version of Flash, so Flash files are unaccessible when using IE 7/IE 8 64-bit versions.
In addition, Internet Explorer 8 is not compatible with Bb Vista 4 and Vista 8, and Wimba 5. Wimba will not work in Internet 8; running the Wimba installation Wizard causes a failure because it cannot locate the horizonwimba.exe file in the AppData folder.
Trying to use Internet Explorer 8 with Vista 4, I have encountered several issues:
1. The My WebCT page will lock during loading process; or
2. The MY WebCT page will take an extraordinary amount of time to load, enough to make a cup of coffee and check the news -- or approximately 5 - 10 minutes.
3. Because IE 8 is not sanctioned by Blackboard, user will get a error message during a Browser Check.
4. Entering a course site may be successful or may cause a user to repeat the attempt after being kicked back to the My WebCT page.
5. IE 8 does not support the WebDAV feature.
I am still testing IE 8 and may have additional issues to report next time.
