      Title:
      Volunteer Activities to support Education
      Content:

Are there volunteer activities that the community would like to be involved with or support through fundraising or other charitable donations?  I am thinking of things that could benefit people in our local communities regardless of where we live.  Or could be national or international efforts to support education for those who need it:

      • Literacy Programs / GED Program - for adults who are struggling to learn basic skills to participate in today's workforce and enjoy the pride and pleasure of reading aloud to their children
      • Book Drives - organizing or supporting book drives by partnering with national/international organizations to gather and distribute books.
      • Adopt a School/Library/Playground- partnering with local organizations to adopt a school and sponsor project relating to repainting or other needs at the local level.
      • Other ideas?

If you are interested in forming a group to explore these kinds of projects please join the discussion here.

    • Is anyone interested in working with me on any kind of project or charity event relating to this at BbWorld'09 or DevCon in Washington, DC in July?  Please reply to this thread with your ideas, reactions, and interest.  Or you can email me directly at jday@blackboard.com.  I'm hoping we can make a real difference to the recipient of our donations and/or sweat equity.

      Thanks!
